I've been looking into the job market for some time now. Mostly to find a remote job, but the only ones I've heard back from are scams.
The sequence is simple.
- They offer a high pay job
- The deadline gets set to less than 3 days
- Once you send your PDF they take a while to "verify" it
- They send you the contacto for the "payment manager"
- The "payment manager" asks for money to "verify" your account
- ... I didn't send any money so they stopped responding xd
The materials they send for "translating" or "transcribing" are usually on the public domain, so it isn't hard to fake the task. What frustrates me is that they are common on the websites for job seeking, and that now "getting a job" is the hook for scams. I hope this blog helps someone to not get scammed, and as general advice you should never have to pay to receive payment. You don't have to be paranoic, but do think about the intentions of other people (this is originally drawing advice). See not only what you want but also what others want.
I guess this blog entry also works as a way to say, I'm available for hiring. You can look at my Github or Youtube to see what I'm capable of. I'm planning to do a video to announce both this blog and to ask for a job, but I haven't found the right workflow to start doing Youtube videos consistently. Now that I write it out loud, maybe the only way to find the workflow is by making the videos.
