I had been experimenting with a watercolor brush on Krita, but I felt something was missing. It didn't feel the same as it looked when I watched someone paint with real watercolors, my curiosity for the real thing grew.
I bought a cheap watercolor kit online, it came with a brush and some watercolor paper which aparently is really important. It also came with a pencil, so I started by doing a sketch of a flower to "fill in" later. When deciding the colors to use, I made use of a sheet which I think was ment for that but I'm not sure since I can't read Chinese. I discovered all of the subtleties that come with painting with real materials, similar to when I use a cheap pen to draw.
The next day I wanted to experiment a bit more, so I decided to redraw some images from the manual of Painter Momopie. I discovered that depending on the amounts of water and pigment the resulting tone and texture varied, and with that I could do shadows without changing colors.
I'm having fun with the watercolors, learning the different ways they can be used. There's so much variance that can be achieved, and I don't think it could be replicated in software without expensive equipment. Now I think I'll have to learn color theory.
